Prenatal Coaching

Prenatal coaching is for families who wish to have expert guidance and support prior to the arrival of their baby, without continuous doula support during labour and delivery. Prenatal coaching is beneficial to any family who feels they need a little extra support navigating pregnancy & planning for the birth of their child.
These sessions are centered on identifying your family's needs, questions, & goals, and setting you up for success. I provide unbiased education, emotional and practical support so that you feel ready to welcome your child.
Every family is different, so I tailor my support to you. Whether you are curious how to navigate the healthcare system, how you will feed your baby, or what to expect as you progress through pregnancy & once your baby arrives, I can help you gain clarity and confidence as you begin this new phase of your life.

What’s the difference between prenatal coaching and birth doula support?

The main difference is that as a birth doula, I am on call to provide continuous support throughout labour and delivery. As a prenatal coach I am not on call, and I do not accompany you throughout the birth of your child. Both services include prenatal and postpartum support tailored to the client.

Who is this service designed for?

Prenatal coaching is for parents who wish to have a bit of extra support in pregnancy to plan for birth & postpartum, but do not wish to have a doula present for the birth of their  child.

What is the benefit of a prenatal coach?

Just like doula support, my prenatal coaching is completely individualized. This means that the care and information you receive is tailored to you & your needs. In addition, prenatal coaching provides parents with expert support for questions throughout pregnancy & into the postpartum period. Having a prenatal coach is like having a really good friend who’s an expert in pregnancy, birth & postpartum to guide you through the process.

What will we do in our coaching meetings?

The content of the meetings is very flexible & determined based on your needs. The pre-meeting intake is the key to determining how you would like to spend your time with me. In that meeting, I will ask you a number of questions to determine your needs, hopes, fears & areas of interest. Based on this meeting we will decide together on the structure of the other two meetings.

Can my doctor/midwife provide the same service?

While primary healthcare providers do their best to answer all of your questions, time is limited, & it is crucial that they attend to your physical health first and foremost. As your prenatal coach, my focus is on your questions, concerns, fears & education. Our time together is dedicated to all aspects of your care that your OB or midwife might not have time to cover. A major component of this service is emotional care. Pregnancy, birth & becoming a parent are transforamative experiences. It is helpful to have someone with whom you can share your feelings, and be heard, acknowledged, & nurtured.

Can a prenatal coach replace prenatal education?

While I always encourage my clients to take a prenatal education course, it is possible to centre your prenatal coaching sessions around prenatal education. This does mean, however, that there is less time for other things.

If I choose prenatal coaching, and decide later that I want birth support, can I switch?

Yes! We would simply upgrade your package to a birth doula contract.

Why is prenatal coaching less expensive than birth doula support?

As your birth doula, I agree to be on call for your birth & to attend your birth in its entirety. This means that I will be available to you 24/7. If need be, I’ll get out of bed at 3am to come to you. I’ll accompany you through your entire labour, whether it’s 2 hours or 50 hours. As a prenatal coach, on-call support & labour support are not included. I get to stay in bed, so you pay a little less.
